About Paul DellaRocco
Paul DellaRocco has been in the hospital management field for more than 35 years. As Chief Executive Officer and President of The Haelen Group since 1992, he has made significant gains for the Boston-based proprietary hospital and health care management company. The scope of this role includes serving as CEO to several hospitals that range in size from 60 to over 200 beds. In many cases, he oversaw the turnaround of these facilities. Since joining the company, Paul DellaRocco has lowered the expenses of a children’s hospital by 35 percent, doubling the budget within three years, and increasing occupancy by 125 percent. For this accomplishment, Paul DellaRocco was recognized by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Coopers & Lybrand in their Great Comebacks competition; the hospital was one of two nationally to receive the designation. Among his other achievements with The Haelen Group, Paul DellaRocco lowered expenses in a rehabilitation hospital by 10 percent and increased occupancy by nearly 50 percent; he also turned around a small island hospital at risk of insolvency. Within 3 months of its Chapter 11 filing, Paul DellaRocco led a restructuring that would curb losses, increase revenue, and save the facility from closure.
Prior to joining The Haelen Group, Paul DellaRocco was Hospital System Administrator of Heritage Health Systems, Inc., from 1988 to 1992. The three-hospital system, one owned and two managed, was managed under a proprietary hospital company. In his time with the suburban Boston system, Paul DellaRocco increased admissions at the owned facility through marketing efforts and increased profitability 12-fold, earning him the Touchstone award from the AHA. He also was recognized with the American Marketing Association’s Gold Peak and Silver Peak awards for a campaign that increased hospital occupancy by 32 percent.
